BarcelonaIt has been 10 days since Rami, a 12-year-old minor residing in Granollers, left his home in the middle of the night, coinciding with the heavy rain episode in the capital of the Vallès Oriental. Since then, he was only seen again that same night, approximately an hour after leaving home, entering the reception of a hotel in Granollers and quickly leaving again. He is a boy with autism who had already left his home on other occasions, up to four times. In this case, the main hypothesis is that he did so scared by the storm, a situation that had already happened other times.
This Tuesday, 52 members of the Generalitat Fire Department continue searching for the boy. They are doing so along the entire stretch of the Besòs river up to Sant Fost de Campsentelles. With search dogs in the lead, they are carrying out sweeps by water and land on both sides of the river. And for the second consecutive day, they are also checking precisely the last point of sighting, the hotel near the Granollers Sports Palace, where the command center of the corps leading the search is located.
Jorge Adonay, from the Adonay Platform, dedicated to searching for missing persons, is in contact with the minor's family and explains that they have also placed posters at bus stops, subway and train stations, including in Barcelona, since Rami really liked this type of transport. In fact, one of the times he disappeared, he took a train to Barcelona.
From the platform, they will also intensify the search around the hotel starting this Tuesday. The security cameras of this establishment captured how the boy entered and reached the elevator, but he turned back and left again. That night, a wedding was being held at that hotel. Some calls about Rami have come into the Platform, but so far none have yielded results.
More than 700 volunteers
Not everyone looking for Rami is wearing a uniform. The operation has the tireless support of hundreds of volunteers, such as Montse Cuevas, a 68-year-old triathlete. With 15 days to go until a "very important" competition at the Challenge Barcelona, she uses her cycling and running training sessions to search for the young man. This very morning she went out around the Palou Nord industrial estate, in the Granollers area, and she has no intention of giving up her efforts, she asserts.
"If we have to check every place five times, we will," she says. Thus, while covering kilometers and kilometers through Granollers and its surroundings, she carefully checks all the "hidden corners" to try to find Rami. She also looks for clues by talking to neighbors and workers, such as dealership salespeople or transporters, since "Rami likes cars," just like trains and supermarkets, she explains.
Volunteers like Cuevas follow the Firefighters' instructions and coordinate through a WhatsApp group that already has more than 700 members. "From the very first moment, there have been many people willing to collaborate," the triathlete celebrates. They divide the areas and form groups of between 4 and 8 people, depending on the scope, and search thoroughly in places "that are not in plain sight." Since this Tuesday, the established schedules for volunteer outings are from 10:30 a.m. to 7:15 p.m., always during daylight hours.
Ten days after the disappearance, Cuevas worries that the Firefighters might close the search for the young man and encourages everyone not to "throw in the towel".
