More bladed weapon detectors in Barcelona after a weekend with five wounded
Collboni announces that all Guàrdia Urbana vehicles will have metal detector shovels
BarcelonaBarcelona is strengthening its fight against bladed weapons. After another dark weekend with five people injured by this type of weapon, the mayor, Jaume Collboni, announced that last Thursday the city council's government commission approved that all Guàrdia Urbana vehicles will be equipped with metal detector wands.
Specifically, the municipal executive approved taking advantage of the renewal of the Guàrdia Urbana vehicle fleet to ensure they now incorporate their own metal detector wand equipment. In this way, the 184 new vehicles to be incorporated in 2027 will have their own wand, which will be added to the 96 wands that the force currently already has.
"We cannot normalize the possession of bladed weapons, especially among young people," stressed Collboni, who assured that the city council is providing a "forceful response" and achieving "positive results" with the control mechanisms it is implementing. "We will use all available resources," he promised.
With this measure, Jaume Collboni's government complies with an agreement reached by the Presidency commission a year ago, when a request from Junts per Barcelona was approved in this regard. Precisely this Monday, the leader of the Junts group at the City Council, Jordi Martí Galbis, said that the city cannot get used to these types of incidents and promised to "declare war" on bladed weapons if he is mayor.
A dark weekend
The night from Saturday to Sunday was particularly violent in Barcelona, with five people injured by stab wounds. The first stabbing was recorded on Saturday around nine in the evening on Llacuna street, in the Sant Martí district. A fight between two groups ended with a man injured by a stab wound, who is out of danger, and two people arrested, one as the alleged perpetrator of the stabbing and another for threats. Precisely, these days the Poblenou festivities are being celebrated.
An hour and a half later, the Mossos d'Esquadra also attended an incident on Beret street, in Nou Barris, where they found another man injured by a stab wound, already out of danger. The investigation is open and no arrests have been made. Only a few hours passed until around two in the morning the police located two minors injured by stab wounds. First they found one on Sigüenza street and another a few minutes later a few streets away. For now, the two stabbings seem to be related and there are no detainees.
The last incident occurred on Via Favència, next to the Ronda de Dalt, when a traffic argument ended with a driver stabbed and a car fleeing the scene. In this case, the investigation has been assumed by the Guàrdia Urbana and there are no people arrested.
