BarcelonaThe father of the abused baby in Barcelona has been transferred to another module after an assault by other inmates. The man was admitted to Brians 1, in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, under provisional detention last Friday. A week later, this Thursday, a violent incident with other inmates who knew he was being investigated for the mistreatment and sexual assault of his one-month-old son led the management to move him to a different module.

The assault did not cause him injuries, and the man is now in another module, as reported by Ser Catalunya and confirmed by various sources to el ARA, who emphasize that he is now "shielded" from further assaults. It is a module that is set apart from most inmates, with only five or six prisoners housed there.

The baby, meanwhile, remains in serious condition at Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona since March 16. Both the father, 42, and the mother, 43, have been in provisional detention for a week due to the severe injuries and sexual assaults the baby has suffered. She is in the women's prison in Barcelona, Wad-Ras.

Five visits to healthcare centers

The judicial investigation is ongoing and the Prosecutor's Office has asked the judge of Violence Against Children and Adolescents of Barcelona, who is in charge of the case, to interrogate all the doctors who treated the baby before being admitted. The public ministry also asked this same court to send the two parents to provisional prison because it saw a risk that the aggressions would continue and that they would opt to flee given the severity of the penalties they face.

The Department of Health is aware of five visits by the parents to four health centers – to CAP Roger de Flor, Hospital del Mar, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, and Hospital Sant Pau – before being referred to Vall d'Hebron, which is where the infant was born and where the mother worked as a nurse. In fact, it was during a consultation at Sant Pau, on March 16, when healthcare professionals activated the child abuse protocol and referred the baby to Vall d'Hebron, a reference center for these cases.
