A man kills his wife and one of his daughters and injures another in Alicante

ValenciaA 51-year-old woman and her 20-year-old daughter were murdered this Thursday in the Canyada del Fenollar area of Alicante, presumably at the hands of the father of the family, aged 53. The man has been arrested by the Civil Guard for these events, which are being investigated as a possible case of gender-based violence.

The alarm was raised by another daughter of the deceased victim, aged 26, who also sustained stab wounds. She called 112 to report the assault. Both she and the alleged perpetrator of the events have been admitted to a hospital with stab wounds.

The incident occurred in the mid-afternoon on Thursday at the family's villa in a rural area with scattered single-family homes located about 10 kilometers from the city of Alicante. The alleged murderer is known for running a churro shop in the nearby municipality of Sant Vicent del Raspeig, very close to Alicante.

According to the Civil Guard, when the agents arrived at the scene, they found the two deceased victims inside the home and two injured people: the alleged perpetrator of the events and the other daughter. The same sources indicate that there is no record in the Comprehensive Monitoring System for Cases of Gender Violence involving the alleged perpetrator of the two murders and the deceased victim. The investigation, however, remains open.

Throughout Friday morning, the alleged aggressor received medical discharge and was transferred to the Civil Guard barracks. In statements to the media, the delegate of the Spanish government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, recounted that the daughter who alerted of the events by phone had "the feeling that her father had murdered her mother, who was on another floor". Bernabé took advantage of the appearance to encourage victims of gender-based violence to report. She also had some messages for their circles, to whom she asked them to inform the police forces and, thus, identify "risk situations".

Up to 26 women murdered this 2026

With this crime, the number of women murdered this year would rise to 26 (1,367 since 2003, when this data began to be collected), while the number of minors orphaned by gender violence amounts to 13 in 2026 and 523 since 2013.
