A 65-year-old man has been arrested for the violent death of a woman in Lleida.
The investigation suggests that the victim and the aggressor lived together in the home where the crime took place.
BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) arrested a 65-year-old man in Lleida on Sunday as the suspected perpetrator of the violent death of a woman, according to the police force. The incident occurred at a residence on Ciudad de Fraga Street in Lleida, and the victim was 53 years old. According to ARA, all indications are that the victim and the suspected perpetrator were not in a relationship, but lived together in the same house. The man voluntarily went to the Mossos police station in the mid-afternoon to confess. The crime occurred in the mid-afternoon, and emergency medical services (SEM) were dispatched to the scene. Although paramedics arrived at the residence, they were unable to save the woman's life and could only confirm her death. The Criminal Investigation Division of Ponent has taken charge of the investigation to clarify its causes and circumstances. The Lleida City Council has issued a statement condemning and expressing condolences for the femicide and has decreed three days of mourning in the municipality. It has also called for a minute of silence at noon on Monday in the Plaça de la Paeria and a protest rally at 7 p.m. This is the second crime to come to light this week, after the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a 22-year-old man in Barcelona as the suspected perpetrator of the murder of a woman in a bar in Hospitalet de Llobregat.
