BarcelonaThe man arrested for murdering his ex-partner's daughter in Murcia will be investigated for vicarious violence, the first such case this year in Spain, according to the Ministry of Equality. The 48-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday and has already been brought before a court. According to the child's mother, the man took advantage of a car trip with the five-year-old girl, Nadia, to give her pills that caused her death. "She's already in heaven," he told his mother when she called to tell her what he had done.

Ramona, the child's mother, explained this during the minute of silence called by Murcia City Council, at an event where she was visibly shaken and surrounded by many family members and friends. The woman recounted that she had a relationship with Jesús, the alleged murderer, for nine years, during which he constantly abused and insulted her, although she never reported this "hell." When she ended the relationship last summer, he began harassing her, while he treated little Nadia "very well, with great affection, like an exemplary father."

The man was arrested in Torrevieja, after he had mentioned that he was near the barracks. Although the relationship with the mother had ended, it was still common for the now-accused to pick up the girl in the afternoons to spend them at her family's home. It was during this car ride that he allegedly gave the girl pills, medications, or narcotics, the type and quantity of which will be studied in the autopsy.

In the middle of the afternoon, the man called Ramona and told her that Nadia was already "in heaven," so she called his parents, who located the girl's body in the family home. According to her testimony, the man murdered his daughter to hurt her, in revenge for the breakup.
