BarcelonaThe predicted rains and storms will put Barcelona and southern Catalonia on yellow and orange alert this Saturday, according to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). The alert extends to the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, as well as some areas of Aragon. The episode of showers, however, will start – probably with intensity – this Friday from the evening in Penedès and Camp de Tarragona, where there may be torrential downpours that could exceed 40 liters per square meter in half an hour and accumulate 60 liters in three hours.

Civil Protection maintains the Inuncat plan alert due to the forecast of local torrential rains this evening and night in Camp de Tarragona and Saturday in the Ebro Delta area. On Saturday, precipitation will especially affect Tarragona, mainly between midnight and 4 AM; in Barcelona, during the day the most affected period will be dawn, although in the morning only cloudiness is expected.

The storms may be accompanied by hail, strong gusts of wind and squalls, after stones of about three centimeters were registered yesterday in some parts of Catalonia due to heavy rains.

The forecast is that the storms will move towards the sea and re-enter inland through the Ebro Delta area at dawn, where very intense rains are expected on Saturday morning. During Saturday afternoon, the SMC does not rule out heavy showers in the southern regions of Catalonia.

The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) does not foresee generalized river overflows, but has warned that water accumulations may cause sudden rises in streams, torrents, and ravines. Furthermore, it does not rule out local impacts on streams and paths that cross the beds of the areas affected by the showers.

Decrease in temperatures

The presence of a colder air mass will contribute to a thermal drop. In fact, during the weekend the thermometer will drop more noticeably and will be a little below what would be expected for these dates, reports Jordi Pons. This will translate into better rest during the nights and the disappearance of torrid and tropical nights on the coast, at least, for a few days.

In the Pyrenees is where this cooling will be most noticeable, and at night you will need to grab a jacket and a blanket (it seems unbelievable, but yes!). In Ponent and Ebre, it will no longer exceed 33°C, and in the rest of the territory the thermometer will move between 26°C and 30°C.
