Five arrested for clashes in Piera between a group of young people and minors in care
The Mossos d'Esquadra are continuing their investigation to identify the perpetrators of the riots in the center of the Generalitat.
BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested five people for the recent riots that have taken place in Piera, in the Anoia region. On May 25th, this town of less than 20,000 inhabitants was at the center of debate due to a week of incidents and fights between young people from the town and minors in care who live in a Generalitat center in the same area. Now, the Mossos d'Esquadra have been able to clear up these disturbances and on June 2nd, they arrested two people.
The first incident occurred on May 21st at around 7:00 p.m. In a town park, Gall Mullat, a dispute broke out that ended with a minor attempting to attack another youth with a knife, although he did not manage to touch him. According to sources consulted by ARA, the attacker is a minor in care who lives in a center in Hostalets de Pierola and whom the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested this Monday for attempted bodily harm.
This confrontation was only the beginning of an escalating tension: the group of young people from Piera went to look for reinforcements and returned to the park. But the minor who was carrying the knife was no longer there. The person who received the blows was an adult over 18 years old who, although he does not live in the Piera juvenile center, does live in a supervised apartment in the same town, according to police sources. This young man suffered a broken nose and various bruises.
The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested four people for this attack: a 48-year-old man, two 19-year-old youths, and an 18-year-old youth. In addition, a 45-year-old woman is being investigated for threatening the young man. The fight ended with cross-complaints, as the alleged aggressors also filed complaints against the adult who had been charged for attacking them.
Last confrontation
However, things didn't end there. The next day, May 22, two young men from the Piera juvenile center arrived by train at 5:00 p.m. As they passed through a plaza in the center, they were confronted by a group of local men. The minors began to run, but were intercepted and attacked by two of the men who had been confronting them a few minutes earlier. It turns out these two men were known to the police, as they had been arrested the day before for breaking a young man's nose in the park. On June 2, they were arrested for two separate incidents.
With the conflict escalating, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) implemented a reinforced security operation in the town. In the early hours of May 24, however, a group of young men attacked the juvenile center with flammable liquid and stones. The Mossos d'Esquadra are still investigating to identify who caused these disturbances. Following these incidents, the situation in Piera has returned to normal.
