ValenciaThe Platform for the Defense and Improvement of Public Healthcare in Ribera has denounced that the health situation in the health department of the region is "saturated, both for patients and staff". They claim a lack of beds and highlight that an entire ward is closed. "In the hospital's emergency service, people who need to be admitted continue to wait for a hospital bed, for hours and days.

The entity states that throughout the summer, staff are seen tired of seeing how the emergency service becomes "a hospitalization ward", since there are no beds, and treatment is provided under "inadequate conditions, without the care, privacy, and assistance quality necessary for the quickest possible recovery".

Lack of privacy and people waiting for a bed

On the other hand, the platform also says that sick people do not have the necessary conditions: "They are in tripled boxes without privacy, and they cannot have the comfort or essential support of companions, who have to be in a chair in the waiting room, for hours and days, without knowing exactly how the sick person is evolving".

"We must take into account that it is not winter, nor the season for flu, colds, or pneumonias, but they are seeing between 400 and 500 people daily. What can we expect for when winter comes?", he adds.

The organization also complains about a lack of staff and closed agendas that promote emergency room visits, and consider that this is "a lack of transparency", since "sufficient information about the real waiting lists for consultations" is not provided.

Points to reduce the saturation of the emergency service

As possible solutions to this problem, the Platform for the Defense and Improvement of Public Health in Ribera asks the hospital management, to reduce the saturation of the emergency service, "to address the problem forcefully and provide effective and real solutions that improve healthcare for citizens".

Finally, they demand "that specialty consultations be opened and that primary care in health centers be reinforced", that the hospital beds be available and that "the objective of healthcare in Ribera be the improvement of people's health, and not dependent on economic criteria".
