A court is investigating an Espanyol footballer for an alleged sexual assault in a nightclub.
The complainant is an employee of the football club itself.

BarcelonaA Barcelona court is investigating Espanyol footballer Álvaro Aguado for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at the Opium nightclub in Barcelona, it has been reported. The Country and ARA has been able to confirm. The complainant is believed to be an employee of the same football club, and the events allegedly occurred during the celebration of the blue and white team's promotion to the First Division in June 2024. The perico team beat Oviedo 2-0 and a private party was organized to celebrate their promotion to the top flight of Spanish football. According to the young woman's testimony, the sexual assault allegedly took place during that celebration.
According to the Prisa newspaper, the victim did not file the complaint immediately, but did so a few months later. Once she filed the complaint against the Jaén midfielder, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) opened an investigation, and it was the court that chose to summon the footballer directly.
In response to the complaint and the events that occurred at Opium, sources at the Catalan club are asking that the 28-year-old footballer's presumption of innocence be preserved while the judicial investigation is carried out.
The case of Aguado, who joined the Perico team in 2023, was made public just days after the Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) unanimously annulled the conviction of fellow footballer Dani Alves for sexually assaulting a girl at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona. In this case, the three female judges and the male judge who make up the plenary session of the appeals chamber of the TSJC considered that the complainant's testimony was not sufficiently conclusive to sustainthe four and a half year sentence imposed by the Barcelona Courtto the Brazilian. Furthermore, in the ruling, they criticized the judges who handed down the sentence for doing so with "inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and contradictions."
Previously, in September 2024, former Celta player Hugo Mallo was convicted of "sexual abuse" for a crime against the woman who worked as a mascot at the Blanquiazul stadium. In this case, the full-back abused the young woman on the handrail before the start of the match held on April 25, 2019.
