Catalonia exceeds 3,000 covid-19 hospital admissions
The rate of infection increases by one hundredth (0.93) but EPG decreases (592)
Covid-19 related hospital admissions in Catalonia went past the 3,000 mark today. The Health Department has reported that there are 3,038 covid-19 patients in hospital, 80 more than yesterday, and 684 in ICU, 9 more than yesterday. It has also reported 1,966 new cases, and 165 deaths (this last number is for the whole weekend, since there has been a glitch with the data provided by the funeral homes). In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, 448,080 people have been infected in Catalonia, and the virus has caused 18,557 deaths.
Effective Potential Growth (EPG) was 793 between 8 and 14 January but has now fallen to 592. As for the Rt, in the last 24 hours it has risen to 0.93. With the new update it is still lower than last week, when it was at 1.33. Cumulative incidence for the previous 14 days was 667.67 between January 15 and 21, above the 621.13 of the previous interval.
As for the cases confirmed by PCR or antigen tests in the period from January 15 to 21, there were 23,645, a figure lower than the previous interval, when 27,950 were reported. This places the rate of confirmed cases at 305.98 per 100,000 inhabitants, below the previous period (361.69). During the last week analysed, 271,037 PCR tests and 103,857 antigen tests were performed, of which 7.08% were positive, below the previous interval (9.50%). The average age of new cases was 42.38 years.
On the other hand, in the last 24 hours, 405 persons were vaccinated with the first dose of covid-19 vaccine and 451 with the second. In total, there are 176,625 people in Catalonia who have received the first dose and 7,345 the second
