A Catalan woman dies in a bus accident in La Gomera.
Ten other people were injured to varying degrees after the public transport vehicle overturned mid-transit.
BarcelonaA 73-year-old Catalan woman died and ten other people were injured this morning in a bus accident in La Gomera, according to Canary Islands authorities. The vehicle, a baby public transport, went off the road and overturned shortly after nine in the morning, while traveling between the island's capital and Alajeró, the municipality where the victim was registered and spent time.
The injured, of varying severity, were taken by ambulance to the Virgen de Guadalupe Hospital. The husband of the woman who died was also traveling on the bus but was unharmed. However, he received psychological care at the scene, according to Casimiro Curbelo, president of the La Gomera Island Council.
Three seriously injured
As reported by 112, among the ten injured, three are in serious condition: a 69-year-old man with lumbar and cervical trauma; a 67-year-old woman with pelvic trauma; and a second 63-year-old woman with hip trauma and an open fracture. The remaining injured, ranging in age from 20 to 76, suffered trauma, wounds, cervical or lumbar pain, and, in some cases, anxiety attacks, all of which were moderate or mild.
According to the La Gomera Island Council, the bus went off the road, fell several meters, and landed on a lower section of the same road, the GM-2, where it came to rest overturned.
A large force has been deployed to the scene of the accident, including several ambulances, a medical helicopter, and personnel from the Fire Department, Civil Guard, Local Police, and Civil Protection, among others.
