Identify the woman they found floating in the Segre and investigate her death as a crime
The victim was not carrying identification documents and appeared dressed
BarcelonaA month ago, on June 3rd, the body of a woman appeared floating in the Segre River near Lleida. According to sources consulted by this newspaper, her death is being investigated as a criminal death. That is, as a homicide. After weeks trying to identify the victim, the Mossos d'Esquadra finally decided this Thursday morning to make public an image of the woman generated with artificial intelligence and to ask for citizen collaboration.
In the afternoon, the Mossos made it public that they had managed to identify the victim. The woman was wearing a pink shirt, blue tights, and black sports shoes. She was also not carrying any identification or phone.
The head of the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Mossos in the Ponent Police Region, Inspector Sergi Mesalles, explained this Thursday that the victim's identification is now "the first step" to reconstruct her life and determine what happened to her. The inspector indicated that the woman's body shows "a series of elements compatible with some violence," although he stressed that it still needs to be determined whether this death, which they consider violent, has "a criminal background or etiology." For now, the investigation is for homicide.
That same day, a body appeared in the Utxesa reservoir, not far from where the woman was found. However, this second body had been in the water for many more days and does not point to a criminal death, according to sources consulted by ARA. Therefore, the Mossos do not link these two cases. Mesalles explained that this second body is still awaiting identification, but that it shows no signs of criminality.
