An earthquake of magnitude 5 shakes Granada and causes minor material damage

An earthquake of magnitude 5 in Alhendín (Granada) has caused material damage in various parts of the province of Granada this past early morning. The Junta de Andalucía has activated its Emergency Plan for Seismic Risk in emergency phase. According to the first available information, the seismic event has caused some material damage, mainly due to the fall of roof elements.

The seismic event took place at 01:04 on Saturday, at a depth of ten kilometers. Although the epicenter was located in Granada, the tremor was felt in numerous parts of Andalusia, such as Malaga, Cordoba, Cadiz, and Seville. The seismic event occurred relatively close to the Earth's surface, which increases its perception, in an area of high seismic activity, accustomed to these tremors.
