In fact, ChatGPT is the most used tool by family doctors, far ahead of other options, according to a study published in The Lancet Primary Care. The work, promoted by the Societat Catalana de Medicina Familiar i Comunitària (CAMFiC) and led by Antoni Sisó, shows that AI has become a regular support in tasks such as medical literature research, text drafting, or clinical session preparation.

Atlas integrates ChatGPT's usual chat function, but also allows the AI to control the cursor, automatically executing actions such as booking flights, filling out forms, or editing documents directly from the web. This new move is seen as an attempt by OpenAI to compete with Google's Chrome browser, which has led the market for years. For now, ChatGPT Atlas is only available for Apple computers, so Windows users will have to wait.

Artificial intelligence is expanding its scope, and OpenAI, responsible for ChatGPT, is the first to openly enter the realm of explicit sexuality. As confirmed, starting in December it will allow the generation of erotic content. To use this feature, users will have to verify that they are over 18 years old. The new version allows users to change the chat personality to make it more like an adult. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, says he wants to "treat adult users like adults," as he mentions on the X platform (formerly Twitter). They are also developing technology that can estimate a user's age based on their interactions.

The official message: a revolution that will turn the popular chatbot into "something more like an operating system," in the words of Nick Turley, head of ChatGPT. It's not yet autumn, but the light isn't the same. The colors are beginning to lose their summery violence and take on a kind of anticipated melancholy. I like this moment, although this year I can't help but feel a twinge of anguish. September has always been, for me, a month of beginnings and endings, a month in which life seems to take stock of what has happened and what might yet happen. But now, with the world as it is, every beginning seems threatened by a larger, more definitive end.

And I say "read" and not "search for information on the internet" because I don't know a single writer or artist, even those in their seventies surrounded by a venerably analog aura, who doesn't log on to the internet every day to see how the world is doing. And it turns out the world is increasingly empty of people and more filled with stochastic parrots. "Stochastic parrot" is the nickname we use to try to diminish the authority and propaganda that dominates the great language models of artificial intelligence like ChatGPT: "parrot" because they regurgitate the work of others and are only capable of repeating what someone has already said; "stochastic" because the mechanism that makes these models guilty of what these things are is not a process of logical reasoning, but one of chance artificially introduced into the choice of words. But, although this robotic parrotism is perfectly familiar to us and we instinctively despise it, we use it. For a few months now, newspaper traffic has been plummeting because we're asking ChatGPT for things we used to ask publications written by human writers. There's a bubble of inhuman readings that we should burst.

A simple explanation or a written paragraph-length instruction becomes difficult to assimilate. The impact on attention span and concentration is very evident. Sometimes I think we should conduct memory workshops, like those offered by people suffering from Alzheimer's when they attend day centers. It's astonishing and worrying. The mechanisms for acquiring knowledge and the way we learn have changed to such extremes that it's hard to identify. Keeping the electronic device open while things are happening in the classroom (debates, presentations, collaborative work) has become an automatic habit, without which we seem to lose our bearings. ChatGPT has become a teaching assistant: it explains what they haven't understood in class with the synchronous teacher. It also helps with completing assignments. It replaces reading an article with a summary of the main ideas. Proposes developing topics, prepares presentations.

"At the time, I didn't know much about AI, so I decided to study it," says Sala i Martín. He spent seven years there, and the result is the nearly 1,000 pages ofBetween paradise and the apocalypse (Rosa dels Vents) provides a comprehensive historical overview of this technology, explaining what it is, what it isn't, and the risks for the future.

Transparency laws have achieved an unusual milestone: the UK's Technology Minister, Peter Kyle, has had to reveal his ChatGPT usage history. Among the searches that have emerged, one stands out in which he asked Kyle for advice on which podcasts he should appear on and also why the adoption of artificial intelligence in the country was progressing so slowly. Coincidentally, or not, this week British Prime Minister Keir Starmer asserted that his government should make more intensive use of AI to increase its efficiency and productivity. As I am more integrated than apocalyptic, according to Umberto Eco's old division, I am not against the adoption of these tools as a support for designing policies. However, it is essential to be aware that they have their biases and that they operate with opaque algorithms (even open-source ones offer answers that are difficult to trace), so we will have to be very careful to ensure that these tools are used effectively. spin doctors pocketbooks do not end up governing a territory with ideas inspired by their powerful owners, the neo-feudal lords of thebig tech.
