A dark week in the markets (for some). Gold, silver, bitcoin, technology companies... It seemed like no one was safe. Silver fell 30% in a single day, and Bitcoin plummeted 50% in three months. Everything was in the red. It felt like the end of the world. And a phrase that made me laugh: "I used to lose 5% a year to inflation, and now I'm losing 20% ​​a month investing."

And why do we talk about "recovery"? Because he had lost his password. This story is not unique: thousands of people who acquired them between 2010 and 2015—when the cryptocurrency system was still relatively undeveloped—can no longer access their funds.

The Treasury has legal support ready to seize bitcoins and other crypto assets to settle tax debts. The ministry headed by the First Vice President of the Spanish government, María Jesús Montero, has submitted for public information until September 16 a draft royal decree that regulates the information obligations of crypto asset providers, which in addition to cryptocurrencies include tokens, NFTs and technology blockchain. The rule is expected to come into force once it is published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) as of January 1st.

The cryptocurrency market has experienced a significant decline after US President Donald Trump announced a series of trade tariffs that have deeply affected the stock market and exacerbated global economic tensions. The price of Bitcoin, which reached nearly $87,300 on Wednesday last week, fell below the $80,000 mark on Monday.

Governments and supervisory bodies are suspicious about cryptocurrencies. The aim is to increase control over a kind of asset which, precisely, is going through one of its worst moments due to the war in Ukraine. The Spanish government has now taken a step further in this direction. The Ministry of Finance is preparing a royal decree which will amend the General Tax Law and the Personal Income Tax Regulations and incorporates new obligations for owners of cryptocurrencies, both at an informative level and in terms of the operations they make. "It is a new currency we should be able to regulate so that there is no kind of fraud or any undesirable effect on the economy", Minister of Finance María Jesús Montero told TVE on Tuesday.
