Tracjusa, the renovated Juneda slurry treatment plant (Garrigues) that will use a new gasification system produced with solid fuels from urban waste, will begin operating in the first quarter of 2027. This was announced today by the managers of the GAP livestock cooperative, which with the Griñó Group is co-owned by another group that requires the combustion of domestic waste supplied by Griñó (up to a maximum of 45,000 tons per year).

Although it is years late—the 2017 climate change law stipulated that they would be approved— before 2021–, this roadmap with the greenhouse gas limits that different economic sectors can emit into the atmosphere should reach Parliament in the autumn, according to Silvia Paneque, Minister for Ecological Transition and Government spokesperson.

A year ago came the ultimatum from Europe for Spain to curb water pollution caused by nitrates from intensive livestock farming and agriculture. The excessively lukewarm reaction when applying palliative measures in some areas has led the European Commission (EC) to go a step further and take the serious problem of slurry to court. Spain will have to respond to the Court of Justice of the EU for non-compliance with the EU directive: "The efforts of the Spanish authorities have been insufficient and unsatisfactory," says the EC in a statement.

Nitrate vulnerable areas have grown by 200,000 hectares in the last decade and pollution has shot up 45% between 2016 and 2019.
