The G-7, which sounds like a powerful soap, are meeting in Évian, which is where the mineral water of the same name comes from. But the representatives of the capitalist economies that take the biggest slice of the pie don't think they make that association because I don't imagine them at the supermarket. You could only find Merkel at the supermarket, but that was a long time ago, and that's why she's so missed. Among other things, and with all due ideological disagreements. The G-7 leaders have these obscene meetings, they call them informal, where all that's missing now is Donald Trump entering without any grace and pretending to joke by saying: I’m the boss. And the rest, of course, applaud the boss as the scroungers of all time have done. But it's understandable, poor things, what else can they do? Trump is a man who celebrates his birthday with a bang. The surprising thing (and I suppose fortunately) is that he continues to surprise us. What a world must have been created over so many centuries for these types of characters to end up deciding the destiny of humanity. What security has been passed on to them so that they feel they can do as they please at the expense of human lives. And what fear has been passed on to us as an inheritance. It feels very long. Luckily, the men's Football World Cup unites us. Even though it also feels long.

The announcement came just hours before the start of the G-7 summit, which will be held until Wednesday in the French city of Évian-les-Bains, with Lake Geneva as its backdrop, and with the presence of the US President, Donald Trump. "The agreement is an opportunity to restore regional stability and stabilize the world economy," France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Japan have stated in a joint statement.

Some 20,000 people participated in the protest, the only one authorized, according to police estimates, although organizers put the figure at 60,000 demonstrators.

South Africa, the host country, secured the approval of a joint declaration focused on climate change, a significant blow to Trump, who had demanded that attendees not sign any document without US representation. Hours before the summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held telephone conversations with several leaders to discuss Trump's peace proposal. These included British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and French President Emmanuel Macron. According to Reuters, these top officials from the three European powerhouses held an initial meeting in Johannesburg to coordinate their positions. Later, the meeting expanded to include the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen of Germany, and the President of the European Council, António Costa of Portugal, as well as the leaders of Finland, Norway, Spain, and the Netherlands.

This Thursday, in the prelude to the G-7 summit that meets on Friday in the English city of Cornwall, the European Union has made explicit its support to the American administration to ask the World Health Organization (WHO) for a new investigation into the origin of covid-19. "The world has the right to know exactly what happened", said the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, together with the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, who in turn called on China to give investigators access to all relevant information. This is further proof of the revival of transatlantic relations between Europe and the United States, which want to stand shoulder to shoulder against the Asian giant.
