But if I look at the latest voting intention polls, already under Mr. Tezanos's leadership, I see that almost every time (except one) he's conducted a poll, he's "overstated"—to use the appropriate words—the results in favor of the PSOE. Perhaps that's what they call "the manipulation."

Previous constitutions (promulgated in 1812, 1834, 1837, 1845, 1869, 1876, and 1931) had rather short lives, due to a constant stream of pronouncements, uprisings, revolts, and military coups, the last of which was (1) long-lived. In Spanish political tradition, toasting the longevity of democratic periods (precisely when the threat—not military, but from the ultra-Spanish far right—is regaining strength) has a certain air of warning against the worst of times.

Specifically, according to the institute headed by José Félix Tezanos, 84.3% of citizens believe the current Constitution "needs some reform"—66.5% think these should be "significant" changes, while 32.1% believe they should be "minor" reforms. These are the findings of the first barometer of 2026, published this Friday. However, the center, directed by José Félix Tezanos, also detects an upward trend for the PP and Vox. According to the data, Pedro Sánchez's party would have an estimated 31.7% of the vote, a few tenths of a point higher than in the last barometer (31.4%), while the PP would follow with an estimated 23%, narrowing the gap compared to the previous survey (22.4%). The far-right Vox party would obtain 17.7% (17.6% previously), thus maintaining its third-place position. In any case, these are very slight movements and may not be significant given the margin of error inherent in all polls.

The Socialists would win the elections if they were held now and would only lose one percentage point compared to a month ago, according to the latest barometer published this Friday. The PP (People's Party) and Vox are not benefiting from the PSOE's loss of support, as their upward trend is stagnating. The Socialists have fallen one point compared to the poll a month ago and would obtain 31.4% of the vote. The PP, which had grown three points in the previous barometer, would achieve the same level of support as a month ago with 22.4% of the vote. Vox, on the other hand, is losing ground and has dropped one point compared to the November poll, with 17.6% support. Sumar would gain seven tenths of a point, reaching 7.8% of the vote, while Podemos would remain at 4.1%, a figure similar to the last poll. As for the Catalan parties, Junts loses three tenths of a point, dropping to 0.8%, while Esquerra maintains almost the same support as in November with 2.1%. Interestingly, Aliança Catalana, which does not plan to run in the Spanish elections, appears for the first time with an estimated 0.5% of the vote.

The CIS poll has put PSOE back ahead of the PP in vote share after being overtaken by Núñez Feijóo's party in July. According to the survey, the Socialists would obtain 29.2% of the votes to the PP's 28.5%. With such a small difference, we can speak of a technical tie. Below the two main parties, there is also good news for the left: far left United Podemos (12.8%) remains ahead of far right Vox (10.3%). The drop of the far right is very substantial, since only a month ago they were at 12% and in the the 2019 elections they got 15.2%.

The Socialist Party (PSOE), for the first time since November last year, breaks its upward trend and recedes slightly: it stands at 30.3%, one tenth less than a month ago. Thus, the PP is now three points behind the Socialists. "With the current CIS it is impossible to beat the PSOE," said Feijóo, questioning the methods used. In spite of everything, he valued the PP's results positively and added: "Our objective is to beat the PSOE and the CIS".

The war in Ukraine has led to calls to invest more in the military, and Spanish president Pedro Sánchez has already explained that he will do so gradually. The State currently allocates €10.2bn (1.2% of its GDP) to the Ministry of Defence, but there are other related items that are not part of this tally. Be that as it may, it is a controversial issue that divides Spaniards. It has become clear that Sanchez's investiture partners do not agree, but support is not much greater among citizens. The Center for Sociological Research (CIS) publishes a specific survey on the war this Friday in which positions in favour and against the increase in military spending are tied with 47%.

Thus, the PSOE has grown three percentage points in voting intentions and has reached 31.5%. Far behind is the PP, which, despite growing two and a half points after its internal crisis, remains at 23.8%. The gap between the two parties, however, widens to 7.7 points. In fact, the strong rise of the PSOE neutralises the growth of the right, since Vox also polled a point and a half higher, up from 14.8% to 16.3%. And how can these two increases be explained? Basically because of the decline suffered by Unidas Podemos, which drops from 13.6% to 11.8%, and also by Cs, which polling at only 3.2% is on the verge of disappearance. Since Cs burst into Spanish politics, this is its worst result. In January it already stood at 4%, but in February it rebounded to 4.8%. In this survey, however, it has sunk down to 3.2%, a figure that is almost a death sentence for the party.

The poll published this Thursday, prepared between 1 and 13 September, gives the Socialists (PSOE) 29.6% of the vote share, one point more than in July. The rightwing People's Party (PP), on the other hand, does not increase its share of the vote, contrary to the polls published in conservative media.
