BarcelonaVox announced on Wednesday the names heading their lists for the Spanish elections on November 29. The majority of the current Congress deputies are in the top spots, but there are also about twenty new faces. And among them, the head of the list for Tarragona stands out, where the far-right has decided to place a candidate with a neo-Nazi past. This is Jordi de la Fuente, a councilor in Sant Adrià de Besòs and current leader of Solidaridad, the Vox trade union.
De la Fuente was a member of the neo-Nazi party Moviment Social Republicà (MSR), dissolved in 2018, with which he was the head of the list in the 2010 Parliament elections, and he also passed through the xenophobic Plataforma per Catalunya (PxC), where he even served as organization secretary in 2016, when Josep Anglada had already left the party. A regular at protests in front of migrant minors' centers and a protagonist of Islamophobic protests such as the 2017 one against a mosque in Nou Barris, he is currently a Vox councilor in Sant Adrià de Besòs and a deputy in the Barcelona Provincial Council.
Regarding the rest of the Catalan districts, in Barcelona, Juanjo Aizcorbe repeats as head of the list and the former Ciutadans member Carina Mejías as number two, followed by the economic guru of the ultra-right, Ignacio Fontcuberta, as reported this Wednesday by ARA. At the head of the Lleida list, Santiago Abascal's party has placed Rafael Villafranca –replacing Eduard Pallerola– and as number one for Girona there will be Ignasi Mulleras, who was already a candidate in 2023.
In the rest of the State, and beyond the absence of Javier Ortega Smith –expelled from the party after a tense standoff with the leadership–, Vox has also decided to keep José María Sánchez García on the lists, the Vox deputy who confronted the presidency of Congress during the debate on a proposal regarding historical memory and who in September 2021 called a PSOE parliamentarian a "witch" while she was speaking in the Congress hemicycle. As reported this Wednesday by Ser, he will be number three for Alicante.
