BarcelonaJunts per Sabadell has decided that in the next municipal elections it will not run alone, but within the framework of a joint candidacy. And it also endorses that the candidate be the ex-leader of ERC in the Vallesana city, Gabriel Fernàndez. This is what the militants of the formation in Sabadell have decided, who with 73.5% of the votes have supported this option; 20.6% voted against it, and 5.9% abstained, as reported by the formation in a statement. The objective, states the party, is to "work for a broad candidacy that challenges the PSC" in the municipal elections of 2027.

In this Saturday's assembly, alongside the local president of Junts per Sabadell, Francesc Xavier Baró, the party's general secretary, Jordi Turull, participated. "Today we said that we want a city proposal that puts people at the center, not party affiliations," defended Baró, who added: "Junts per Sabadell is willing, out of generosity, to offer the leadership of the candidacy to Gabriel Fernàndez. This is not about names, it's about the project. Now is not the time for party politics, it's time for city and country politics."

A broad coalition

In this way, Junts per Sabadell formalizes its intention to integrate into a coalition with other organizations. Gent de Sabadell, the group led by Gabriel Fernàndez after he tore up his ERC card, as well as MEScat and Identitat Sabadellenca, would be part of it. Precisely this Saturday, the former ERC leader in Sabadell closed the municipalist convention of MEScat, an organization also linked to Junts and which was born from the merger of Moviment d'Esquerres de Catalunya (MEScat) and Acció per la República.

Fernàndez left Esquerra due to disagreements with Oriol Junqueras's national leadership in September last year and became a non-attached councilor – he also ceased to be the spokesperson for the municipal group in the Sabadell City Council. In the Republicans' national congress, Gabriel Fernàndez was part of the Foc Nou candidacy, led by Helena Solà and Alfred Bosch, to challenge Junqueras for leadership.
