The transversal axis of the extreme right
With Ripoll as the epicenter, the pro-independence far-right is no longer just an electoral anecdote. For months, it has been conditioning public debate and causing the strategies of most political parties to shift. With a few years' delay compared to other European countries, the phenomenon has settled in Catalonia, and surveys, such as the one recently published by ARA, predict rapid growth at the ballot box. What are the reasons that explain the penetration capacity of Aliança Catalana among the electorate? This dossier focuses on the keys to understanding why some municipalities are more permeable to the persuasion of the far-right, and we will also profile various capitals along the Catalan transversal axis —the one that runs through the central part of the country— from Figueres to Tortosa, passing through Manresa, Vic, and Ripoll, and stopping in Balaguer.
