The Spanish flag falls as they were raising it in the armed forces parade
It was the first time Princess Elionor presided over this event, which was held in Vigo
BarcelonaVigo is the city that this Saturday hosted the Armed Forces Day event, with a military parade with 3,700 troops, more than 70 aircraft, 109 vehicles, and 32 motorcycles. And it was the first time Princess Leonor presided over this parade. The event, however, will surely not be remembered for the magnitude of the parade, but because the Spanish flag that they raised while the Spanish anthem was playing fell.
What happened to the flag? According to sources from the Ministry of Defense told the Efe agency, the flag fell because the pulley on the pole broke. King Felipe VI witnessed the fall up close, and he gave instructions to replace the flag with another one, one from the Royal Guard. The accident has been commented on social media. Former president Carles Puigdemont, for example, made an ironic tweet: "Spain's (flag) fell".
This has not been the only accident of the parade; the bad weather in the city of Vigo has forced the cancellation of the flight of the fighter jets that draw the colors of the Spanish flag in the sky and that give the start to the air parade. The public has also not been able to see the jump of the paratrooper brigade.
