Salvador Illa meets with King Charles III in London

They are expected to sign a collaboration agreement on the circular economy during a series of conferences.

BarcelonaSalvador Illa traveled to London this Wednesday. The president participated in the annual event of the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA), an organization founded by King Carlos III that works to promote the circular economy. Within the framework of this event, the president formalized a "strategic collaboration" with the CBA, which will serve to "promote the fight against climate change and support the ecological transition" of the Catalan economy, although no specific actions of this alliance have been detailed at this time. During the afternoon, when the CBA event took place, Isla met with King Carlos III.

The alliance with the British organization will emphasize the prevention and fight against forest fires, according to the government. In fact, in Catalonia, the CBA already supports the Center for Forest Science and Technology of Catalonia, one of the main forestry research centers in the country, and also collaborates with the La Caixa Foundation to conceptualize a European center in Cap Roig to support actions that promote the ecological transition. The Government explained that the event also included a "reception with King Charles III" and that Isla "held a meeting" at the Saint Jaimes Palace.

Before participating in the event, Illa highlighted "the alliance" with the foundation promoted by Charles III, with whom he explained that he would be able to "greet and have a brief meeting." "The objective is to put Catalonia on the scene at the highest possible level, but above all to promote the policies we believe are right, particularly the fight against climate change," the President argued. After meeting with Carlos III, sources from the Presidency explained that the President conveyed to him the "Government's commitment to the fight against climate change, the ecological transition, and the protection of biodiversity," in addition to explaining the climate policies being developed by the Generalitat. In this regard, according to the same sources, "they have delved particularly deeper into the Government's forest management policy to improve fire prevention and move toward more resilient natural environments."

Isla's trip to London comes after the president met with Pope Leo XIV in Rome on October 1. "It was very emotional," said the president, who was in Italy for the Millennium of MontserratIn that case, the head of the Catalan government held a private audience with the new pontiff, becoming the first state official to be received since his appointment. According to government sources, the meeting with King Charles III was not in the same format, but they did "discuss" the new collaboration.
