The former mayor of Puigverd de Lleida has been found dead at the age of 43.
The main hypothesis of the Mossos d'Esquadra is that the former mayor, indicted for a crime of gender violence, would have committed suicide.

BarcelonaThe former mayor of Puigverd de Lleida, Josep Solsona, was found dead this Tuesday. According to reports Segre As confirmed by the Mossos d'Esquadra (Spanish police), Solsona, 43, allegedly took his own life. He was mayor until July 1, 2024, when he was removed following a vote of no confidence. In March of the same year, he was arrested for alleged domestic violence, but the prosecutor's office eventually closed the case shortly after his dismissal.
Juntos, the party he represented, suspended him from membership due to the judicial investigation. Úrsula Barrufet, also from Junts, relieved him of his post, and the vote of no confidence was supported by ERC and the PSC (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party), with dissenting votes from Solsona himself and another Junts councilor. The former mayor lamented that too many "personal issues" had come into play, which ultimately led to this situation. Solsona became mayor of Puigverd de Lleida in 2019, precisely as a result of a vote of no confidence against the then mayor of the ERC party, Sandra Barberà. After the 2023 elections, she returned to lead the council.
On March 8, International Women's Day, last year, The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested Solsona, accused of two alleged crimes: one of threats and coercion, and another of injuries and threats in the context of gender violence, domestic abuse, and sexual assault of a minor. The arrest took place on Friday at 4:30 p.m., as reported by the newspaper.Segre After spending the night at the Lleida police station and testifying before the on-duty court, Solsona was released the next day without precautionary measures. The judge made this ruling after hearing statements from both the suspect and several witnesses, and following the opinion of the Prosecutor's Office.
