The councilwoman who "blows" to get rid of a mayor who had been in government for 27 years
Junts' number 2 in Perafort, Elisabet Albujar, supported ERC's motion of no confidence
BarcelonaThe councilwoman of Perafort Elisabet Albujar (Vilafranca del Penedès, 1982), who was number 2 for Junts, on Monday supported the motion of no confidence by ERC to oust the mayor from her party, who had been in power for almost 27 years. The councilwoman did so by displaying a t-shirt that read "Me la bufa" (I don't care), something that the outgoing mayor, Joan Martí, reproached her for. In conversation with ARA, the also president of the Consell Comarcal del Tarragonès reiterates: "It is deplorable and shameful to wear this t-shirt because the Town Hall is the most important institution in the town and it was a plenary session that will go down in history".
During the plenary session, Albujar did not intervene and at all times avoided looking at the now former mayor, who left office emotional and hurt by what he calls "betrayal". The councilwoman, who is non-attached after being expelled from the group for backing the motion, has spoken to ARA to justify wearing the t-shirt: "It is a response to the mayor for accusing me of being a traitor. I had been silent for many days and on the day of the plenary I decided to wear it because they can say what they want, but I have not betrayed the town, I have given everything until I could no longer".
The councilwoman assures that she broke with the government, where she had been since 2019, due to disagreements with the former mayor. "I did not feel supported or listened to, and Martí imposed the decisions that were made," she states. The former mayor attributes the support for the motion by the second deputy mayor to her desire to be mayor, even though she was already mayor of the district of Puigdelfí, the other nucleus associated with this municipality of 1,300 inhabitants in Tarragonès.
"We have not had any discussion and she has supported the motion because at the beginning of the term he told me to share the mayorship and I replied that I had to make such a decision and that it was not on the table," accuses the Junts member. "He was the one who proposed it to me and I didn't bring it up again because he had to do it," replies Albujar, who assures that she had been fighting for a year for the government to continue. The last straw, she says, was "allowing thirty motorcyclists to park in the town square without being fined" or "compulsively voting for his Carnival float to win the competition". Amidst this escalation of reproaches, Martí warns his successor. "Whoever has done it once can do it twice. I wouldn't sleep soundly with a turncoat in the government," he concludes.
