Puigdemont announces legal action over a video in which Sílvia Orriols steps on his corpse.
Boye will also bring to the Prosecutor's Office a video from an anonymous account in which the AC leader shoots the Junts leader.
BarcelonaDressed entirely in black, stepping on the corpse of a former president of the Catalan government and grinning from ear to ear. This is the artificial intelligence (AI)-created image of the leader of the Catalan Alliance, Sílvia Orriols, and former president Carles Puigdemont that is circulating on social media following its publication in a Girona media outlet affiliated with the far-right party. Furthermore, some users have gone further and used the image to make a video, also using AI, in which Orriols is seen shooting the former president. Lawyer Gonzalo Boye has already announced that he will take this video to the Prosecutor's Office, considering it a hate crime.
In statements to SER Catalunya, Boye lamented that the Prosecutor's Office has not initiated action ex officio, "as it did with Pedro Sánchez," and lamented that it has "highly variable criteria" depending on the person. The lawyer believes this is a "very serious incident" and that this is not the way to conduct politics. He asserted that Puigdemont is "upset and concerned, because this is a trend that Catalan politics cannot tolerate." Furthermore, Orriols called for an investigation into the origin of the video, believing it "damages" his image and "victimizes" former president Puigdemont. He emphasized that the first to echo it were members of Junts.
Shortly after, the Catalan Alliance announced that it would take legal action against the anonymous user who circulated the video. "We will not tolerate any defamatory attacks or any attempt to discredit the Catalan Alliance through fake news," they stated. This user, who tweeted under the name Lara Croft (@Cro56634Lara), no longer exists. She has been deleted. In a press conference after the Catalan Parliament, Orriols avoided condemning the Girona Noticias image: "I didn't like it and I don't reputable it, but I don't see the point of condemning it." The leader of the far-right party also questioned whether it was Puigdemont's corpse. "I interpret the headline as an electoral defeat for Junts due to the growth of the Catalan Alliance. There are people with very thin skin who want to see more than there is," she added.
Ripoll subsidy
Junts Ripoll has attacked Aliança Catalana in reaction to the image created by Diari Girona News and asserted that it is the only media outlet that receives subsidies from the city council. "The money from the people of Ripoll should not be used to misinform, much less to generate hatred or incite violence," the party argued to X.
Despite the backbiting on social media, the Ripoll City Council plenary session held at the beginning of October. approved the new civic ordinances promoted by Orriols with a favorable vote from Junts, although the text did not include the veto on the Islamic headscarf that the far-right mayor intended to introduce. ERC, PSC, and CUP voted against.
