Everything you need to know about this year's Diada

With the motto "I am here. We are here. Independence", this year the citizen mobilization for September 11th will once again be decentralized. It is being convened in three cities: Barcelona, Girona and Amposta, led by the Catalan National Assembly (ANC), Òmnium Cultural, the Council for the Republic, the AMI, the Intersindical and CIEMEN. This is what is planned for this National Day:

Barcelona

The mobilization in Barcelona will be divided into two columns, one for the present and one for the future. The first is called at 5:14 PM at Gran Via with Casanova street; the second, at the same time at Via Laietana, at the Cathedral square. Both will meet at Plaça Catalunya to "unite the fight for independence" after completing this route:

Girona

In the case of Girona, a single column will travel through the streets of Girona. The call is at 5:14 PM at Plaça de Catalunya, and it will pass through Gran Via de Jaume I, Avinguda de Ramon Folc, the Rellotge roundabout and will culminate at La Copa.

Amposta

The capital of Montsià will also receive two columns: the one of the present, which is summoned at the street of Sebastià Juan Arbó with Italy street at 16:30 h, and the one of the future, which is cited at the avenue of Santa Bàrbara with Elisabets street at 16:50 h. Both will meet at the hanging bridge of Amposta.

Demonstration of the independentist left

At 17:30, at Urquinaona Square in Barcelona, the independence left march will be held, which in Reus is at 19:00 and in Girona and Lleida are at 13:00 and 11:00 respectively.

The Festival for Freedom

Once again, the day will end with the traditional Freedom Festival, organized by Òmnium, starting at 7 p.m. on Passeig Lluís Companys. It will feature performances by DJ Trapella, La Gossa Sorda, and DJ K-ZU. The concert will close the Diada's agenda of activities, and between the performances, the cultural organization will hold a brief political act "aimed at the youth of the country".

Institutional acts

The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, will address the citizens on the evening of September 10th, at 9 p.m., with his traditional speech from the Palau. A short while earlier, the giant senyera will have been hoisted at the Parliament in an institutional act that will symbolically kick off the celebrations. Citizens will be able to visit both the Parliament and the Palau de la Generalitat on Friday, as they will hold an open house day.

During the Diada itself, the main event will be at eight in the evening at the National Theatre of Catalonia; an event that will revolve around the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the first official celebration of the Eleventh of September after the Francoist dictatorship. Before that, however, the Government, political parties, and social, economic, and sports institutions of the country will go to make the offering at the monument to Rafael Casanova.

Impact on mobility

Due to the celebration of the National Day, there will be disruptions to the mobility of Catalans. Beyond the streets closed for the ANC demonstration, there will be incidents on the Barcelona metro with possible disruptions at the stations of Urgell (L1), Universitat (L1/L2), Catalunya (L1/L3), Passeig de Gràcia (L2/L3/L4), Urquinaona (L1/L4) and Jaume I (L4) due to the influx of people at the pro-independence mobilization. On the Barcelona bus lines, lines D20, D50, H12, H14, H16, V9, V11, V13, V15, V17, 19, 22, 24, 39, 47, 54, 55, 59, 63, 67, 120 and 141 will be diverted or restricted; intercity bus lines entering the center of the Catalan capital will also be affected. Furthermore, metropolitan bus lines will also have diversions in the case of the L20, L95, L96, M12, M15, A1, A2, B20, B24, B25, N4 and N11.

In parallel, there will be a substantial reinforcement of public transport: in the case of Rodalies, for the service on lines R1, R2 North, R2, R2 South, R4, R11 and R16; and in the case of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat, on the Barcelona-Vallès line starting at 10 in the morning and on the Llobregat-Anoia line, especially during peak hours.
