Cuixart calls for abandoning "hyper-tacticism" and warns of "irreversible" consequences of going to elections

L'Hospitalet de LlobregatÒmnium Cultural joins the ANC in the pressure of civil society to try to unblock in extremis the formation of a pro-independence government in Catalonia. At an event organised by the organisation at La Farga in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat in the presence of the acting president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, and other representatives of ERC, JxCat, the CUP and the Comuns, Jordi Cuixart called for an end to the dynamics of "attrition" and "hyper-tacticism" and for a return to a "sense of state" and "generosity" in favour of a "shared strategy" for all pro-independence movements, which he described as "urgent". "All spaces are essential", he added. Under the watchful eye of personalities such as the President of the Parliament, Laura Borràs, her predecessor in the post, Roger Torrent, and the former President of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, as well as representatives of the ANC and the AMI and the main trade unions, employers and social organisations, Cuixart has riveted the nail on the coffin by warning of the "irreversible" consequences for parties, institutions and citizens in general of a failure of the negotiations that ends with the call for new elections.

The appeal of the president of Òmnium comes hours after the ANC claimed to Esquerra, Junts and the CUP to reach a pact to "move" towards independence and not put "at risk" the majority of more than 50% of the 14 February votes. Like the president of the ANC, Elisenda Paluzie, Cuixart has avoided taking a position on the timing and shape of the new Government. "It is not up to us", he said, but warned that both the repression and the inequalities of the country are worsening while the parties do not get out of this "dead end". Offering Òmnium as a meeting place to "rebuild trust", the president of the entity has not wanted to waste his prison leave - shortly after the act he has had to return to Lledoners - and has made sure to censure the "insults between comrades in struggle that lead to nowhere", in reference to the cross criticisms between JxCat and ERC. "Enough is enough", he reiterated, and added: "If the sterile dispute between parties is imposed, do not count on Òmnium".

In parallel to the pressure from the organisations - the ANC has also called a demonstration for this Sunday in Plaça Sant Jaume - for the moment the three pro-independence parties in Parliament have moved on Wednesday with a minimum pact to try to iron out the fundamental differences, which still remain. This pact includes a commitment to promote a national agreement for self-determination that goes beyond the parties and "brings together the social majority" that is in favour of the referendum. A very similar objective to that which Òmnium raised at this afternoon's event, including the fight against repression and amnesty in the milestones to be achieved through a great pact that the organisation has announced it will promote from civil society. Cuixart, in this sense, has called "to return to fill squares and streets throughout Catalonia" in the face of a state that "has long since given up defending the interests of the Catalans".

"We will work to continue generating great consensus to move towards a shared strategy [...] to complete the process of self-determination, which has the support of parties, institutions, organised citizenship, political prisoners and those in exile", the entity has defended. "It is viable, it is possible and it is necessary", added its vice president, Marcel Mauri, who has also made public that they will create the Guillem Agulló school for training in democracy, civil rights and disobedience, they will collaborate in territorial projects to confront the discourse of the extreme right, reduce poverty and inequality and guarantee the presence of the entity in all cities with more than 30,000 inhabitants, in addition to strengthening their campaigns on a European scale. Cuixart's appeal in Strasbourg against the sentence of the Catalan independence bid, in this sense, seeks to become a "European cause of fundamental rights", he has sentenced.
