Ayuso also likes strawberries

MadridIt's no surprise that the Madrid People's Party (PP) likes fruit. Isabel Díaz Ayuso's controversial statement about denying who had called Pedro Sánchez "son of a bitch" During her investiture in Congress, it has become a slogan for the Madrid PP, who did not waste the party congress, which they are hosting, to offer a nod. Upon entering the Ifema Madrid fairgrounds, where Alberto Núñez Feijóo will be proclaimed president of the PP again this weekend, Aranjuez strawberries are being handed out. "They're delicious! Aren't they good? They're fresh," the Madrid president exclaimed upon arrival.

Ayuso stopped to eat, accompanied by her deputy, Alfonso Serrano, who was in charge of organizing the party's 21st congress. "Of course I like fruit," she stated pointedly after tasting some strawberries. Ayuso attracted the media with this display and overshadowed the arrival of Feijóo, who was arriving at that very moment accompanied by the person who will no longer be her deputy, Cuca Gamarra. Both walked past the Community of Madrid stand—located in a space in the pavilion dubbed "Freedom Square"—where the fruit was being distributed. The one who did stop for a moment before trying them was Miguel Tellado, who will be the all-powerful general secretary of the PP once this congress is over.

Perhaps Feijóo and Gamarra, on the other hand, will be convinced by what the Madrid PP has prepared for the next two days. This Saturday and Sunday, congress attendees will be welcomed with churros and hot chocolate. A staple of Madrid cuisine with fewer political connotations. The sense of optimism and excitement among attendees, who see Sánchez's downfall increasingly imminent, is evident in the details. Aside from the lunch break before entering the plenary session—which the organizers have dubbed "Plaza de España"—they can also buy T-shirts (for ten euros) with phrases related to Spanish politics at the PP Youth stand.

"I'm not president because I don't want to be"

"I am very much for Rajoy and his setback Galician," commented a delegate who had just chosen one with a phrase from the former president of the Spanish government and the PP. Among the hits that can be printed on t-shirts or sweatshirts, there is the one of "Very Spanish and very Spanish", "It is the neighbor who chooses the mayor" or a more recent one he dedicated a few months ago to the leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra, to the commission of inquiry into the Catalunya operation in Congress: "I won't answer if I think you're stupid because it's not about creating a bad atmosphere."

Even more recent is another phrase that could be remembered: "Well, it's five o'clock and I haven't eaten," uttered by the Socialist leader after the first Socialist executive since the Santos Cerdán case broke out. The PP's New Generations have also chosen to mock Feijóo with another example, with the phrase "I'm not president because I don't want to," which Sánchez has repeatedly used to attack him and demonstrate that, given the results of the last general elections, he cannot reach the Moncloa Palace. A situation that the PP, which opened the congress with a video montage featuring Cerdán, Koldo, Ábalos, and Sánchez, hopes to reverse as soon as possible thanks to the crisis within the PSOE.
