Leonor repeats the controversial youth of Felipe VI at the Brazilian Carnival

A paparazzi claims to have seen the heiress getting involved with a colleague from the naval barracks

BarcelonaThirty-eight years after the media scandal of Felipe's alleged love affair at a carnival in Salvador, history has repeated itself. After a journey of several days, the ship in which Leonor de Borbón sails has arrived this week in the Brazilian town. As usual, the young people from the naval school of Marín have taken a day off and have gone to see the preparations of the city for the carnival. Between drinks, music and people, a paparazzi claims that he saw the heiress getting involved with a boy from her company, a media uproar that Felipe VI already experienced when he was in the same city and at the same age as his daughter.

It was the paparazzi Raúl 'Aplausito' Garcia who was in charge of capturing a series of images where Leonor can be seen among the people at the party, in casual clothes and accompanied by some of her colleagues from the naval barracks. Although the photographer did not capture the scene, he claims that he witnessed how the heiress kissed one of his companions, specifically, the one wearing a blue floral shirt.

In fact, it was García himself who reported the threats from the young woman's bodyguards, aged 19. "Either you delete them or we will break your camera," he claims that the agents in charge of watching the daughter of Felipe VI and Letizia told him. Although the photographer says that he deleted the photographs in front of the agents, he later managed to recover them, so a series of images of Leonor at the party accompanied by a boy have been published. In addition, he says that due to the incident with the bodyguards he was unable to capture the moment in which Leonor shortened the distance with the young man, although he claims that they kissed in the middle of the party.

Felipe VI's mess in Brazil

In February 1987, the then Prince of Asturias also found himself in a similar situation and ended up occupying the front pages of the Spanish press for days. On the voyage with the same ship, Juan Sebastián Elcano, Felipe VI and the rest of the crew also stopped in Salvador de Bahía, coinciding with the days before the carnival. However, the son of the emeritus was more explicit in his festive immersion. Specifically, Felipe went to see with other companions a female show at the Scala do Río club with "semi-naked dancers", as the press of that time explained. In addition, the following day the magazine Interview The Spanish newspaper published various images of "Prince Felipe's Brazilian girlfriend" on its front page, a story that Felipe and the Zarzuela tried hard to deny.

At least, Juan Carlos's son has fond memories of those days, as he explained at the Military Easter event this January: "An experience, dear Leonor, that will surely remain – as it happened to me (and also to your grandfather) – among your best memories of military training." Just as he did, the ship's next stop will be in Montevideo, Uruguay. There, Leonor is also expected to have various diplomatic obligations, just as she has had in Brazil during the days of rest on the voyage.
