Don't worry about the famous, please...

Those who often furiously claim their right to privacy shamelessly exploit it to make money when they feel like it, even if it means clinging to their most tragic episodes

BarcelonaIt has always struck me as surprising the stance of those people who firmly oppose the asphaltic reporters of the gossip press, who ask celebrities questions on the street. People who argue that society in general and the media in particular should "let celebrities live." The truth is that when I see them so worked up against the gossip press, I think, I wish there were a way to suddenly and completely make the fame of these so-harassed famous people disappear. It would be very, very funny to see how, perhaps a month after failing to make a living on their own, not even by chance, and not feeling recognized anywhere, they would do anything to regain their lost status. They would beg to get back the unbearable company of the paparazzi.

Just to give a recent example of this, we can talk about Alejandra Rubio, granddaughter of the great Maria Teresa Campos and daughter of Terelu. This young woman, 26 years old, recently left television because she could no longer bear the pressure it caused her to work

there. The departure was at the end of March and sine die, although she doesn't know what that means. This decision, which sounded like a threat when she explained it, ended up being a joke, as two months later she was already back sitting in the place that made her feel so bad. Perhaps immediate impoverishment or visualizing herself launching a project for herself made her reconsider? Who knows...

What we do know is the success of her first – and last? – literary work: Si decido arriesgarme. This romantic novel, which has enjoyed enormous media promotion in the months leading up to its launch, has sold 1,277 copies, which would have brought the author approximately 2,000 euros, as recently reported on Telecinco. This amount is the economic repercussion of the two years she says she invested in writing it. Many authors would want these sales... But in her case, with all the media support received, it is difficult to qualify as a success. In summary: luckily fame has appeased her failure – without the campaign perhaps she wouldn't have sold any – and luckily fame has allowed her to quickly find work as a television personality again. It will be difficult for the press and people to forget her and "let her live" if she keeps going on television to fight with people from her family or, lacking relatives, any other subject live.

Global wealth

But don't think that living off the royalties of inherited fame and saying in the meantime that the press mistreats you is an exclusive patrimony of Spain. There are international examples. Since he married the heiress and eternal aspiring actress Nicola Peltz, Brooklyn Beckham has been living in a growing public confrontation with his biological family. A series of grievances difficult to understand with his own family – which he has not managed to explain clearly – have led him to have no relationship with them. Everything is so serious that this week David Beckham has become the first footballer in history to achieve a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and his firstborn did not attend. And this, despite the fact that since he got married he lives in Los Angeles. The retired footballer has been accompanied by all his children, his wife, and also by friends like Eva Longoria or Tom Cruise. But of Brooklyn and his wife, not a trace.

Despite not finding a moment to go and greet his entire family, Brooklyn has had his father in mind for earning money. And it is that, taking advantage of his father's spotlight, he has made a fortune – never better said – with an advertisement starring him in which he appears watching the Football World Cup alone at home. "You're probably wondering why I'm watching the FIFA World Cup 2026 from home," ironically asks this 27-year-old, a former model, former photographer, and chef without a restaurant by profession. In the advertisement, shared on Instagram, the advertisers wrote in the comments: "We can imagine why you are watching this from home..." This is among the comments from users who criticize him for making money on the backs of a family that says has always exposed him excessively to the media.

This announcement of global impact, which is based solely on Brooklyn's dispute with his family, contrasts with the statement he issued in January regarding this whole planetary-scale show they have organized. "All we want is peace, privacy, and happiness for ourselves and our future family," the young man said at the time, who now seems to have changed his mind and prefers war and publicity for himself and his future family. Perhaps at home they told him he has to make some financial contribution, as he must have expensive tastes to maintain and his parents must have cut him off a long time ago. Well, instead of excelling in various disciplines like his parents, the angry Brooklyn Beckham has decided to stand out only by exploiting this surname he hates so much.

What goes around, comes around...

Also this week we have enjoyed a show of epic surnames and few professional successes made in Spain. It is about the advertisement that the ex-wife of Kiko Rivera Pantoja –a.k.a. is a bad mix. [...] Choose Grefusa Mix, choose the best kiko is a bad mix. [...] Choose Grefusa Mix, choose the best kiko", she says ironically in the campaign.

Obviously, Pantoja's son got angry and issued a statement surely because he was not able to understand that if he got indignant in public, it would make this campaign that he hates so much work even better. "There is a truth that neither a campaign, nor a hundred interviews, nor a thousand headlines will change. The life you have today is thanks to having eaten a Kiko. [...] There is a before and an after that everyone knows perfectly, you just have to look at yourself. On Google there are the photos. Go and check it out for yourselves", he said on Instagram trying to make her look bad but looking much worse himself. It is quite funny –not to say absolutely sad– that he, who has not yet found any occupation thanks to his talent and who has lived off his surnames like no one else, who has spent weeks consecutively speaking ill of his mother on television, now demands silence and respect for himself.

And sending people to Google Images criticizing the beauty of the woman he –presumably– fell in love with is also very strong. I'm tempted to buy all the Grefusa Mix I can find just so the brand can announce that this campaign has been a commercial success. That said, I also hope it is a success so that people stop taking sides with the vital calm of celebrities, who constantly mock our intelligence. With the multitude of noble causes there are, choose another one!
