Daryl Hannah explodes against the series about John Kennedy Jr. and the portrait it makes of her: "It's terrible having to defend myself"

The actress was the girlfriend of Kennedy's son, the main character of 'Love Story'

BarcelonaDuring the 90s, John Kennedy Jr., son of the assassinated president John F. Kennedy, was one of the most desired men in the United States. At that time, he shared a good part of his life with the actress Daryl Hannah, whom he finally left for Carolyn Bessette, whom he married in 1996. Three years later, the couple and Bessette's sister died in a plane crash. The love story between the young heir Kennedy and the Calvin Klein executive is the common thread of Love Story, one of the series that is making the most fortune on Disney+. However, the fiction has not pleased everyone and one of the people who has publicly wanted to show her discontent has been Daryl Hannah, who has expressed her indignation with the series' portrayal of her. In an article she published in the New York Times and titled How can 'Love Story' get away with it?, Hannah has bitterly complained about how the series represents her. "The character of Daryl Hannah that appears in the series is not remotely an accurate representation of my life, my conduct, or my relationship with John," writes Hannah, 65. "The actions and behaviors attributed to me are false," she remarks. The actress Dree Hemingway is responsible for bringing the actress to life in the fiction.

For Hannah, the series is an example of misogyny, and she assures that it is not by chance that the fiction portrays her as an "irritating, egocentric, complaining, and inappropriate" woman. She assures that, in this way, the creators make her appear as Bessette's great rival and the obstacle to the culmination of the love story. In this sense, the actress takes as proof a quote from one of the series' producers, Nina Jacobson, who said in an interview: "Given that we are rooting for John and Carolyn, Daryl Hannah occupies the space of the adversary that you narratively want for the story." In response to this quote, Hannah recalls that "a real, living person is not a narrative artifact" and adds that for millions of people a fictional portrayal is equivalent to a real version of a person's life.

In the essay, the actress takes the opportunity to deny some of the actions and behaviors that the series attributes to her. "I have never used cocaine in my life nor have I organized cocaine parties," writes Hannah. "I have never pressured anyone to get married. I have never desecrated any family inheritance nor have I sneaked into anyone's private memorial," she adds. "I have never leaked any story to the press. I have never compared Jacqueline Onassis's death to that of a dog. It is terrible to have to defend myself from a television series," she concludes.

Daryl Hannah is not the only person who has complained about the series produced by Ryan Murphy. Jack Schlossberg, nephew of John John Kennedy and candidate for the United States Congress for New York, has also strongly opposed the fiction. The difference with Hannah's case is that he does not appear as a character in the series.
