Cardi B is being sued for assaulting a security guard and scratching her with one of her fake nails.
The American rapper has testified about a 2018 altercation at a Beverly Hills obstetrics office.
Barcelona"Can you show us your nails?" a lawyer asked Cardi B in a civil suit filed against her for assaulting a security guard. The American rapper was sued by Emani Ellis, who sued her in 2020 for physical and verbal assault and is now seeking $24 million in damages. The altercation took place on February 24, 2018, at a Beverly Hills obstetrics center, and the singer testified in two sessions that took place on August 26 and 27.
Ellis explains that she was making her security rounds at the building when Cardi B, real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, arrived. She says she got excited and called the artist's name, and that she responded by saying, "Why the hell are you telling people you saw me?" The guard claims that Cardi B accused her of trying to spread news of her presence at the facility and then threatened, shamed, and mocked her. The insults ended with Cardi B scratching her with one of her two to three-inch-long fingernails.
That day, Cardi B had a checkup for a pregnancy she hadn't yet made public. The singer said that Ellis started freaking out and filming her with his cell phone when he saw her. She has acknowledged that she started a verbal argument because she felt the guard was invading her personal space and life, but says she wouldn't have tried to fight "a bigger security guard" than her. He has admitted to having called her "Get out of my face, bitch."
The singer, known for her daring and sudden image changes, has also made headlines for her styling at the trial: at the August 26 session she appeared with blonde hair and on the 27th with black hair. The lawyer who was questioning her had to ask her what her natural hair looked like because, since it changes radically every day, he was confused. This is not the first lawsuit the artist has received for assault: in 2018 he received a restraining order for having assaulted two waitresses and in July 2023 a video went viral video in which she was seen throwing the microphone to the audience at a concert.
