Should we really continue to apologize for demanding that Benjamin Netanyahu stop his policy of sadistic destruction of the Palestinian community in Gaza? Should we really continue to pretend that nothing is happening in this captive territory, where even the most basic food and medical aid is missing? Philippe Lazzarini, the United Nations refugee agency's commissioner for assistance to Palestinian refugees, has found a few words that embody the tragedyIn the Gaza Strip, "civilians are walking corpses." Is this a metaphor? Olmert has acknowledged that "Gaza is currently a concentration camp."

An operation that relies, it must be said, on the help of Hamas, which, with its terrorist logic, demonstrates the same contempt for its exterminating impulses, providing an argument to justify Netanyahu's exterminating impulses. It is incapable of confronting the president's genocidal despotism.

In this context, Emmanuel Macron has taken a step forward and announced that France will recognize the Palestinian stateThat is to say, it will symbolically give the Palestinians the status that others deny them. It's true that Macron is not at his best; his failure in French politics has been spectacular—it's now embarrassing to recall his emphatic arrival at the Élysée Palace determined to take France further than ever. The result is that the far right has swallowed up a good part of the right wing during his term and has long since distanced itself from French politics. Now he seems to be seeking redemption in international politics. But, in any case, beyond the sordid calculations of personal interest, we must thank him for breaking the silence and resignation in a time when the cadaverous images of the Palestinians in Gaza, the empty pots, the desperation of families watching children dying of hunger, reach us every day to the point of being converted. And yet, it is undeniable that we are witnessing the systematic destruction of a people.

We cannot forget the insolent image shared by Trump and Netanyahu: Gaza turned into a luxury vacation spot. But silence prevails. Few voices dare to respond. Some leaders have reacted against Macron's rupture. And the European Union presents the capitulating profile of Von der Leyen. You can spin it as many times as you like; you can use Hamas as an alibi to justify a devastating response that doesn't selectively attack terrorists but rather all the Palestinians in Gaza. Netanyahu's infernal success is that he continues the sadistic exercise of destroying a people, and not even the United States and Europe are capable of setting limits. On the contrary, they help and applaud him, as Trump commands.
