Pretext, symbol and martyr

When Feijóo points out that during Sánchez's eight years in office thousands of evictions have occurred without any special emotionality on the part of the Spanish government, he is right. And everyone has seen and understood that the eviction of Maricarmen Abascal has been the Spanish president's last ace up his sleeve (the last one so far) to go to elections with some possibility of a comeback.

The eviction was the pretext. And now, the death of Maricarmen fourteen days after she was taken out of her home on a stretcher has turned her into a symbol, practically into a martyr, and she will no longer descend from that status. But not because the media aligned with the current Moncloa say so, nor because Sánchez uses it for his own interests. It is enough to see the reaction of the international media (there are problems of access to housing all over the developed world) to realize how many people have felt politically reflected or humanly challenged by this case. The PP not so much, judging by how Ayuso laughed about it.

But, above all, it is enough to open your eyes and look around you, and to talk to young people about their prospects of becoming independent. Therefore, the question for Feijóo and for all the other candidates is what plan they have for housing. And whether they are willing to negotiate it or will just limit themselves to throwing it at each other's heads. It won't be easy. The decrees that Congress did not approve would have put a temporary bandage on those who already had a rental contract. But how can it be done so that more tenants and more landlords can enter the rental market? And how can it be done so that building is not an obstacle course? And a self-criticism about how we have increased the population without thinking that the needs for services and housing will multiply, as well.
