Peyu and Albert Pla's trip to the pot
After having attended the premiere of Hamlet By Peyu and Albert Pla (not the Shakespearean one, to be precise), I left the theater fascinated by the mind-bending performance they had just given us. A mind-bending performance that has the virtue of creatively summarizing all the ills of a world running rampant and without brakes: people living in their bubble of obsessions and selfishness, dysfunctional personalities behind a veneer of normality, the absurdity of a world in which it is no longer possible to live without truly living.
With these ingredients, one could create auteur theater that leaves you depressed, but Peyu and Pla are not from that world; they do what they know how to do and are capable of placing Sea and sky and Mexican soap operas amidst that very Galdós-esque panorama.
As is typical of the galactic genre, there are moments when you no longer know where the story is going, because the two protagonists dedicate themselves to showcasing some of their most comedic talents: Pla fent de Pla and Peyu playing Peyu, while still remaining true to their characters. But nothing could be further from ajam session. The dialogues in the play demand precision inLand however you can It functions as a cascade of gags that often ends with applause from the audience, who have happily connected with it. If anything, the play could be trimmed by a few minutes and it would shine even brighter.
Pla and Peyu have always explored less traveled artistic paths, and as a result, the outcome has often been original, different, and rewarding. They have found an audience that refuses to be conformist. In a world of franchises, these two artists don't copy and prove once again that personal talent pays off, even in Catalan.
