Netanyahu is also a revolutionary

It has taken more than a year and a half of indiscriminate killing, but finally, a portion of the international community is reacting to the demands of Israel's fundamentalist, far-right government: the extermination of the Palestinian population (this is called genocide, in effect) and the occupation of its territory. It is also reacting to the criminal actions of its army, which often behaves more like a horde of murderers than an armed force supposed to successfully carry out the mission of stopping a terrorist group, in this case Hamas.

Thus, the reaction to the association agreement between the European Union and the State of Israel is a response to the situation in Gaza, which is "intolerable, catastrophic, and cruel," in the words of European Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas, and aims to force Israel to unblock the flow of humanitarian aid. Some Member States, such as France, are threatening further measures, and Spain has already voted to halt arms sales to Israel. Catalonia has announced the closure of its office in Tel Aviv. Outside the EU, the United Kingdom and Canada have announced nonspecific measures (but which may target "specific individuals") if the illegal settlements of Jewish settlers in the West Bank, in addition to the forced displacement of the population, are not halted.

It's true that these measures are too late for the more than 52,000 civilians killed in Palestine since October 2023, but they are truly unprecedented and could mark the beginning of a significant shift in the relationship between Israel and Europe. Therefore, they are important for this reason and because throughout this long year and a half, we have heard and read dozens of times that this reaction would never happen, and that asking for it was something for naive people, bondholders, wokes And brothers-in-law who don't understand the issues of war and high diplomacy (those who think this way are obviously experts). Now that the reaction that should never have happened has occurred, these same experts are simply belittling it. It won't work, it won't serve any purpose, it's a ridiculous gesture, etc. We'll see what happens.

Of course, the one who most scorns the European offensive is Netanyahu, whom we should get used to referring to as a war criminal. He has now become eloquent and openly admits that his government's goal is to control all the Palestinian territories and displace their entire population, while admitting that they must do "something" about humanitarian aid. "Our friends are disgusted by images of extreme hunger," he gives as the reason. His friends are the Donald Trump administration. Netanyahu finds the Trumpist proposal to turn Gaza into a resort The tourist attraction, which was even staged in a video, is "correct and revolutionary." This reminds us that around here, we're also fed up with hearing "revolutionary" calls from the right. One of the things we can do is to take care of our language and give words the importance they deserve. Revolution, as freedom, is a word worn out by the abusive and distorted use made of it by reactionaries.
