The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the leader of the opposition, Manuela Bergerot, have engaged in a cheap, low-quality controversy, which is what political leaders do to serve up a daily dose of cheap entertainment. Ayuso says she "encourages" left-wing women—the verb is very well chosen—to "go out alone and drunk at night in Iran," and also to "take their gay friends along, to see when they get hung from cranes." She thus supports Donald Trump, embracing the amoral premise: if the leaders of a country are inhumane to the civilian population, the civilian population can be bombed under the pretext of bringing them down. Bergerot responded that "the first condition for a woman to be free is that her country not be bombed," and that she has a "mania" for "scolding women who like to go out partying," which is an idiotic statement, because it's a cynical "whataboutism." Speaking of women's freedom from being bombed, she downplays the freedom to walk down the street without rags covering you up like an Egyptian mummy.
Ayuso is referring to Pedro Sánchez's reluctance for Spain to participate in the US strategy, now that the US has launched an attack with predictable consequences. But that's what being in NATO is like, I think, terrified. It's true that in Iran, you don't have to be drunk to be hung from a crane: simply not wearing a veil is enough. But the Madrid president is referring to that slogan of some left-wing leaders: "I have the right to go out alone and drunk at night." They mean that no matter how you dress, you shouldn't be raped. And this is absolutely true. In any case, thinking about young people or the elderly, it's worth advising them to go out with someone if they're drunk. They can be raped by more than just men. You could get robbed (whether you're a man or a woman), run over, or fall into the sea (if the drunkenness happened in Barcelona). And if we're going to be moralistic, it's much better if you don't go out drunk, girl. Have a glass of wine or sparkling wine with dinner and enjoy the conversation; that's what it's all about, not seeing double. I understand the point of the left's demands, but they wouldn't say, "I have the right to go out high at night and not get raped," would they? How empty.
