Attacking the media: “The New York Times is a disgrace to journalism”. “I am unsubscribing from Abc”.
False modesty: “I am running for the forgotten men and women of our country”. “I am running so that the club is not stolen from the members“.
Absence of modesty: “I am the best president in history”.
Victimhood: “They are against us”. “The most serious case in Spanish football”.
Conspiracy theory: “They stole the elections, I won by a lot”. “They stole seven leagues from me”.
Sexism: “You are a fat piglet”. “It was written by a woman who I don't know if she knows about football”. “Let's see, that little girl, she also has the right to speak”.
Zero self-criticism: “We were in Vietnam for 18 years, and we've only been in Iran for weeks”. “Less than two years ago we had won the League and the Champions League”.
Conflict as a style: “We will never surrender”. “They will have to drag me out in a coffin”.
False altruism: “During COVID we saved millions of lives”. “In Africa, children watch football thanks to Real Madrid.”
Downplaying serious news: “There are good people on both sides”. “The players fight every day”.
This style was not created overnight. We already know that power can be very crude. But now it is not the exception. It is becoming the norm.
