Women's football is not interesting

BarcelonaWomen's football doesn't interest men's football managers. That's right. Some people are shocked to see how men's league matches have been scheduled for the same time as Barça's Women's Champions League final against Arsenal in Lisbon. Quite simply: whoever is in charge doesn't care. Women's football continues to grow every year, but it does overcome obstacles. None of them are easy.

Spain has the world champion national team. And the best players, as well as a youth football team that wins a ton of titles. And it has Barça, the best team right now. But growth has come from behind, as often happens with revolutions. Just as it happened with the right to vote, the right to divorce, the right to study. Just as it happened with salary increases, with the right to be a mother without it affecting your professional life, a struggle in which we are still late. Football played by women has a long tradition, although many ignore it. In 1914, it was already being played in Barcelona. During the Republic, I was growing. Franco's regime brought everything to a standstill, but even under the dictatorship, many brave women defied the rules as early as the 1960s.

It's not a mushroom, it's not something new. No. Thousands of women have worked hard, overcoming obstacles. Spain was a world champion whose Federation helped less than others, a credit to the players. Sometimes it's hard to see, since we're lucky to have a Barça that has firmly believed in us for twenty years, but Barça is a bubble. Just look at the reality of other First Division clubs, with unworthy stadiums, with bad schedules, with trips that seem like Imserso road trips.

To continue growing, things also need to change from the top down. We have more and more girls who want to be like Aitana or Alexia. Basque clubs also believe in them. But the authorities need to act: it would be as simple as UEFA pushing to ban league matches during the Women's Champions League final by decree, for example. Clear rules need to be set, to pave the way. You have to believe in it. But right now they believe in it. only millions of women, children, fans and various clubs.
