What did Mazón do on the day of the DANA?

As the actions of each political leader on the day of the DANA in Valencia are being reconstructed, it becomes increasingly clear that Carlos Mazón's attitude was negligent and completely lacking in professionalism and institutionality during that fateful day. We have now learned that the Minister of Justice and the Interior, Salomé Pradas, tried to contact the Valencian president at 12:52 p.m. and at 4:29 p.m. without success. How is it possible that a president does not answer the calls of the minister in charge of emergencies on a day with a red meteorological alert due to the DANA?

We now know that a few minutes after the first attempt, Mazón declared that the storm was moving towards Cuenca, downplaying the situation. Also, that at 4:29 p.m. he was at the El Ventorro restaurant having a meal that lasted more than three hours with the journalist Maribel Vilaplana, to whom he wanted to offer the address of '. Mazón's first call regarding the DANA didn't come until 5:37 PM, when Pradas was able to reach him. At that time, let's remember, the Valencian Government had requested assistance from the UME (Mechanical Emergency Unit) and there were already victims in the Chiva and Utiel areas, where the ravines had overflowed. But the most serious thing is that, when he was supposedly already aware of the seriousness of the situation, Pradas was unable to reach him on another call at 7:10 PM, when the Cecopio was discussing sending the alert to the population. They finally spoke at 7:37 PM and also, note, at 8:10 PM, minutes before the alert was sent. If there really is a cause-and-effect relationship between the fact that the president was unreachable and the delay in sending the alert, something Pradas denies, Mazón could face criminal liability. This is the only thing that would explain why the tapes from the cameras at the Palau de la Generalitat were erased, which would have allowed us to determine exactly when Mazón arrived at El Ventorro and when he left for the Cecopio. It's clear the Valencian president is hiding something and wants to obstruct the investigation.

The Catarroja judge's instruction is also exposing other deficiencies in the management of the DANA (Watershed Management District). The Director General of the Natural Environment, Luis Gomis, has sent a letter to the court admitting that monitoring the ravines is a responsibility of the Generalitat (Catalan Government) and reporting that he himself made environmental agents available to the regional ministry to carry out this task at 11:54 a.m., without receiving any response. This letter demolishes the Valencian government's entire argument that monitoring the Poio ravine was the responsibility of the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHX). The CHX (Central Hydrographic Confederation) regularly reports on flows, and had already issued a hydrological alert that morning, but it is the Generalitat (Catalan Government) personnel who are supposed to be on the ground. And in any case, 112 received numerous calls warning that the ravine was overflowing.

The bottom line is that Pradas' incompetence and Mazón's frivolity were a catastrophic combination for the Valencians that day.
