Trump humiliates Europe by booing Zelensky

The public booing of Donald Trump and JD Vance Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office is a turning point in recent history because, beyond the perplexity, indignation and disgust that the images produce, they also draw a very clear reality: the new president of the United States has abandoned the traditional alliance that he maintained with Europe in defense of the so-called "free world", against authoritarian regimes of the Rústico. Now it is no longer like that. Trump is with Putin and he is also against the EU. Because it must be clear that Trump and Vance have tried to humiliate Zelensky in the White House because they could not bear him telling them the truth about Putin (for example, that he never complies with ceasefires), but in reality, those who are humiliated by these images are in Europe, which once again sees how he is completely ignored.

Because now we have to ask ourselves: what good have the visits of Emmanuel Macron and Keir Starmer in Washington served? What good have all the conciliatory attempts been if, when push came to shove, Trump was very clear that his goal was to force Zelensky to surrender and accept the Russian occupation? If the only logic Trump understands is that of force, it will be necessary to play these cards. The illusory idea that Trump would not carry out the threats and bizarre ideas he launched during the campaign has proven to be a dangerous self-deception. We are dealing with an arrogant, narcissistic and, above all, vengeful character. You only have to listen to his speech in the Oval Office to see his obsession with Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. For his boss, the European Union is something that was created "to annoy the United States" and that also represents the values of his hated political adversaries, the Democrats.

This is where Vladimir Putin fully agrees. Both aspire to divide up Ukraine and corner Europe, turning it into a set of isolated states with no capacity for coordination or any influence in a new world order in which only the great powers such as the United States, Russia, China or India would have a say. It is also worth remembering that Russian interference in the 2016 elections was confirmed by an investigation by an independent prosecutor during Trump's first term, and that Trump has never forgiven Zelensky for not helping him in his campaign against Biden (he asked him to open an investigation against his son for his business dealings in Ukraine). Now he acts not as an ally of Europe, but as a true agent at the service of the Kremlin.

This is the reality to which Europe must react quickly if it does not want to be devastated by the Trump hurricane. Preventing Putin's victory in Ukraine is now more strategic than ever for the Europeans, and even more so if the United States follows through on its threat and abandons Kiev to its fate. The time has come to rethink the European Union as a whole, and also the transatlantic alliance, which is now seriously damaged. And this will be the case at least as long as the Trump nightmare lasts.
