Violations of the rights of immigrant girls
This Sunday's dossier is dedicated to the violations of the rights of immigrant girls. At the end of January, several educators in Raval denounced in a statement that many girls of foreign origin in the neighborhood are prohibited from playing sports, going to summer camp, going out alone, or having male friends as soon as they reach puberty. After weeks of investigating the issue, journalist Mònica Bernabé has confirmed that these are not isolated cases, but rather a widespread but hidden problem, and the stepping stone to forced marriages, as some professionals warn. However, denouncing these cultural practices can generate racism. What should be done then? Should we look the other way despite the fact that these girls' rights are being violated?
