The new Catalan derbies don't scare Barça either.
The Blaugranas extend the sweet hangover from the Champions League against Levante Badalona (0-2) and Aleixa achieves a new milestone
BarcelonaA heavily rotated Barça extended the aftermath of another Champions League final qualification with another 2-0 victory. The Blaugrana machine, which has featured young players from the start such as Lleida native Alba Caño and Swiss Sydney Schertenleib, never tires of winning. This time, the victim has been Levante Badalona, a project that has undergone a revamp this season but, like last year, ends the campaign fighting to avoid relegation.
No new Catalan derby can scare this Barça, a team steadily moving towards a new La Liga title and maintaining a four-point gap on Real Madrid at the top of the table. The goals that would have opened the scoring came in the second half. In the first half, Pere Romeu's team dominated the ball, as expected, and had as many as 12 shots to none for the home side. But only two among the three suits.
After the restart, Romeu brought on some Patumas, but just as Ewa Pajor, Aitana Bonmatí, and Alexia Putellas had barely made it onto the pitch, the Blaugranas opened the scoring. Barça were accompanied by a large group of fans who made their presence felt despite Johan Cruyff not playing.
Alexia came out to distribute sweets and Pajor almost took advantage of one, but his shot hit the woodwork. His pass was cut out by Cubedo with a clear hand. Meridiano, who missed a penalty against Chelsea, scored again from the penalty spot.
