BarcelonaLa Fabra i Coats is the epicentre of the first edition of the Book Music Festival of Barcelona, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday, from 11am to 7pm. It is an initiative dedicated to musical literature in a broad sense, as defended by the director, Jaume Massaguer, promoter of the project together with Cristina de Fortuny. That is to say, there will be biographical books and musical essays, but also fiction literature, because there are novels such as Trainspotting, by Irvin Welsh, or Story of a piano, by Ramon Gener, in which music plays a prominent role. "The aim is to highlight the work of writers, journalists, translators, photographers, editors and music booksellers," says Messeguer. "Music books open windows to the world of music as art, culture and personal experience," says Ramon Moreno, curator of the Book Music Festival.

Publishers such as Contra, Milenio, 66 rpm, Sílex, Liburuak, Redbook, Lenoir, H&O and La Cúpula, among others, and bookstores such as Alibri, La Conxita, La Figaflor, La 22 and Rocaguinarda, are taking part in this first edition. The book sector is going through a good period, at least in terms of the number of titles published, but, as in other areas of essays and non-fiction, it is necessary to promote their translation into Catalan above all. This is also one of the objectives of the festival, "to influence and promote the translation into Catalan of works written in other languages."

The activity at Fabra i Coats will begin with a tribute to the writer Jordi Sierra i Fabra, pioneer of music journalism in Catalonia. On Saturday there will also be concerts byArnau Grabolosa (19.30 h), Catástrofe Club (20.30 h) and Joana Serrat (21.30 h), and on Sunday the day will close with a performance by Koko Jean and The Tonics (19.30 h) and a DJ session by Axel Pi, from the trio Sidonie (9pm). At the same time, there will be talks, round tables and presentations of new publications at the Ignasi Iglésias Library in Can Fabra.
