Seven paintings seized during the Civil War have been returned to the first Republican mayor of Madrid.

The Spanish government has returned to the family of Pedro Rico, a lawyer and the first Republican mayor of Madrid, seven paintings seized by the Republicans during the war for safekeeping and never returned by Franco's regime. With Rico in exile, the paintings were scattered among five national museums.
