BarcelonaAntoni Cañete has this Tuesday given the starting signal for his second term at the head of Pimec, after being re-elected to the post at the beginning of February. A new mandate that supposes, as the president has explained, an "important change" in the organization of the employers' association, with the will to "continue doing business activism" and "lead the spaces" of decision and representation of the companies.

The strategic lines for the next four years have been defined this Tuesday with the celebration of the first board meeting of Pimec, in which the forty new presidents of the commissions, sectorial and territorial of the entity have been appointed. Among the most notable are that of Mònica Gregori, who assumes the presidency of Pimec Comerç, Álvaro Sánchez will lead Pimec Joves and Borja Solans will be at the head of Pimec Lleida. As the main novelty, the employers' association has created four large areas to "strengthen and revitalize" its activity: Industry and Economy, which will be led by Josep Soto, general manager of Caypi; the Social area, headed by Pere Cornellà, general manager of Cafès Cornellà; the Services area, which will be chaired by Antoni Torres and the Economy and Employment area, which will be headed by Emili Rousaud (FactorEnergia).

Cañete also claimed that it is "the first employers' association to comply with parity", according to the 40%-60% criterion, and also "very rejuvenated".

Leading the spaces

"Today we are making a very important change," said Cañete in a press conference. "We are continuing with the oxymoron of business activism. Until now we have managed to be in the leadership positions and make our leaders legislate thinking first of the small and then of the big," he claimed. "In this mandate we want to consolidate our position in the leadership positions and now lead these spaces," he determined.

In this sense, Cañete has opted to continue the work carried out until now and for "SMEs to have their own voice within the Spanish social dialogue." "In the Spanish business representation there is an anomaly, we still do not have small and medium-sized companies sitting with their own voice within this dialogue," and he has defended that their presence should be immediate.

At the first meeting of the executive committee, to be held on 4 March, the general secretary will be appointed, who will continue to be headed by Josep Ginesta if there are no last-minute changes.
