Muniesa takes over as president of CaixaBank Dualiza and other signings of the week
Talgo appoints a new board member after a wave of resignations
Since Tomàs Muniesa took over as president of CaixaBank at the beginning of the year, taking over from José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, the new positions he has inherited have gradually emerged. Now it's the turn of the presidency of the bank's Foundation for Dual Training, which was also held by Goirigolzarri. There are also changes at Talgo, which has half its board vacated due to a wave of resignations. These are some of the most significant signings of the week.
Tomàs Muniesa, new president of CaixaBank Dualiza
The board of trustees of the CaixaBank Dual Training Foundation, known as CaixaBank Dualiza, has appointed Tomás Muniesa as its new president, replacing José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, who has held the position since 2016.
This appointment follows Muniesa's assumption of the presidency of CaixaBank on January 1, culminating a long career at the bank, which he joined in 1976 and where he has held various positions of responsibility, including Human Resources, Capital Markets, and ALCO management. He also served as Executive Vice President and CEO of VidaCaixa from 1997 to November 2018.
Tomàs Muniesa, a graduate in business sciences and master's degree in business administration from Esade, was appointed deputy general manager of VidaCaixa in 1992 and, in 2011, general manager of the insurance group. He is also a member of the ESADE Foundation Board of Trustees and a director of Allianz Portugal.
Talgo appoints María José Zueco as new board member
Talgo's board of directors has unanimously agreed to appoint María José Zueco Peña, current secretary of the board of directors, as an independent external director of the company. This appointment fills one of the four board seats that became vacant last February, when directors Francisco Javier Bañón and Javier Fernando Olascoaga (both from Trilantic), Pedro Manuel del Corro García-Lomas (Torreal), and José María Oriol Fabra (non-executive vice president and heir) of the company's founders resigned.
Trilantic is the British fund that owns 29.8% of Talgo and will sell its shares to the Basque industrial group Sidenor for €185 million. Torreal holds 3.5% and the Oriols approximately 7%. Some of these resignations were made to avoid a conflict of interest, as at the time the three investors were part of the same company, which was subsequently dissolved with the separation of Torreal from Trilantic and the Oriols. With these resignations, Talgo's board was reduced to just six members.
