ParisFrance and the United Kingdom will lead a European peacekeeping mission deployed in Ukraine to ensure that Russia complies with the ceasefire when a peace agreement is reached. French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed this Thursday at the end of the summit held in Paris with around thirty leaders, mostly European, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, Macron admitted that there is no consensus to move forward with the mission and that only the armies of "some" countries will participate. "There is no unanimity, but it is not necessary either," he emphasized.

According to the French president, in the coming weeks, military officials will begin to outline the mission, which will be deployed "in strategic locations" in Ukraine. To prepare the peacekeeping force, a Franco-British mission will soon travel to Ukraine. Despite the reluctance of some countries, Macron reiterated that European forces will not be on the front lines, where the Ukrainian army will be, and will be a tool of "deterrence" to prevent Russia from attacking again.

Macron did not say which states would participate. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also did not reveal whether Spain would be part of the coalition of willing countries. Sánchez left the Élysée Palace without commenting.
